Parish Chairman’s Notes August 2024

The Capel Citizen of the Year Award (sponsored by Adrian Scripps Ltd) was made to Chris Wise. The framed certificate was presented to Chris at the Capel Fete on July 6th. Chris was nominated for his unstinting work and legal and financial expertise which helped the gym move into the church buildings on Badsell Road at short notice. This has secured the future of the gym and ensured the future of the building which is now to be shared by the gym and the church. Chris is also a member of the Save Capel Executive and helped draft the Hearing Statements presented to the recent Local Plan hearings. Chris had four nominations from different residents, and the Parish Council unanimously agreed he deserved the award. As well as the framed award Chris as £500 to give to a parish project of his choice.

At the time of writing, we expect the Capel Neighbourhood Plan to be approved by the Borough Council at its meeting on 17th July. It will then go to a referendum of residents expected in early September.

We await the result of community grant application to UKSPF which would enable us to expand the CCTV to cover the allotments. As previously advised, we are in receipt of a grant to install outdoor gym equipment in the former under fives play area and we expect work to take place in the next few weeks.

Urgent request for support: After the Parish Council election in May we are still two councillors short of the nine which enable the council to work efficiently and ensure the burden does not fall too heavily on a small number. If you are keen to support your community and work to ensure the Council operates in the interests of residents, why not put your name forward. There is no election necessary. Please contact the clerk@capel-pc.org.uk for application details.
