Parish Chairman’s Notes July 2024

The good news is the Parish Council’s application for funding for an outdoor gym which is to be built in the old under fives play on the Recreation Ground has been successful. The funding comes from the FCC Communities Foundation and will cover the cost of the gym equipment and its installation. The equipment chosen is designed to be usable by all ages and all levels of fitness. The news came through at the time of writing so a timeframe for installation has yet to be agreed but is expected to be in the next few weeks and months.

The trustees of the CCA are expected to proceed with some exploratory work on the roof of the Village Hall which has leaked repeatedly over the last few months. The Parish Council has agreed to work closely with the trustees over the coming months as we explore ways of financing a replacement or refurbishment of the Hall which is nearing the end of its expected life. Jonathan White, Corporate Property Manager at TWBC attended the Parish Council meeting on 3rd June to explain to councillors and trustees some of the options we would have in the coming months.

Councillors agreed to apply for a grant from the UKSPF Community grants programme to help to pay for an extension of the CCTV system to cover the allotments. This is to address allotment holders ongoing worries about security.

The Parish Council has agreed a joint Hearing Statement with Save Capel for Stage 3 of the Tunbridge Wells Local Plan Enquiry and hopes to be represented at the hearings. CPC had previously budgeted for legal and consultant costs, to represent our case at the enquiry, which we will also be shared with Save Capel.

The Capel Citizen of the Year Award sponsored by Adrian Scripps Ltd will be presented at the fete on July 6th.
