Parish Chairman Notes May 2023

The Annual Parish Meeting took place on April 3rd  with 65-70 residents attending to listen and participate in the proceedings. The Chairman started with the Annual Parish Report. Readers can find a copy of this on www.capel-pc.org.uk . Following this Carlos Hone and Kevin Hope from TWBC Planning Department gave a presentation and answered questions on the Tunbridge Wells Local Plan. There was a lively question session lasting an hour, though the officers were not willing to reveal what their advice to Borough Councillors would be when a decision is made on the way forward, probably at the beginning of July. The other main item of business was the Chairman’s presentation on the Regulation 14 Consultation on the Capel Neighbourhood Plan. Details of how to participate in this can be seen in a separate notice in this edition of the magazine. We urge as many of you who can to have your say before the deadline of 5pm on May 26th.

At the Parish Council meeting on 27th March councillors approved the final specification and quote for the upgraded CCTV. This will now cover the car park entrance, Village Hall, toilets, cricket pavilion, Muga and children’s play area. The allotments will not be covered at this point, but the system can be extended at a future date. The work should be underway in the next few weeks.

Electric vehicle charging points will be installed at the entrance to the car park, providing two charging bays. At the time of writing all the paperwork has been signed and we await an installation date from KCC’s contractors.

We have launched a residents’ consultation on a 40mph speed limit on Alders Road (see separate notice). Please respond if you are affected as KCC require evidence of local consultation. Following a recent spate of fly-tipping in the Alders Road/Church Road/Half Moon Lane area we have referred the issue to the PCSO and the rural police officer. In the meantime residents are urged to report any incidents to the TWBC website https://tunbridgewells.gov.uk/environment/pollution/report-fly-tipping  or to KCC if the materials obstruct the highway (03000 41 81 81).

A reminder that the Parish Big Lunch to celebrate the Coronation will take place on Sunday May 7th at 12:00. Please bring your lunch/picnic to the Recreation ground to celebrate with your neighbours. There will be a village cricket match to watch and the pavilion bar will be open for refreshments. The Village Hall will be open in case of poor weather and the Parish Council will be giving out celebratory wrist bands to mark the event. We intend to erect a banner on the village green to advertise the ‘Big Lunch’ made up from A4 posters designed by local children.
